Ambient Flowers is the latest "ambient" DVD from Vat19, the people who brought you Ambient Fire, Water, Calm, etc. It's a video garden, meaning this DVD turns your TV into a pretty flower garden. As with other Ambient titles, Ambient Flowers offers a great deal of interactivity - you can watch the program in its entirety, or in segments that group flowers by color. There is also an extra scene highlighting some interesting facts and trivia about some of the flowers. You get a choice of several kinds of music and sound effects, and the ability to make custom playlists. What really sets Ambient Flowers apart from similar products is the reference content. You can turn an overlay on and off that shows quick information about each flower, such as its name. Pressing "Enter" (or "Select" on some players) on your remote will bring up a screen that tells you all about the flower you're looking at. Another click brings up a map showing where it grows. Popping the disc into your computer will give you access to literally hundreds of flower-related documents, from growing instructions to wallpaper images for your computer's desktop. The DVD is very enjoyable without all of this additional information. With it, it's exceptional! The video and audio quality is excellent. Ambient Flowers was shot in 1080i high definition, currently the highest resolution available in high definition. The audio is Dolby Digital, and includes 5.1 surround sound. In short, this DVD looks and sounds great.
